'Portraits of Rooms' is the beginning of a long term, hopefully life-long, archive of images documenting where I sleep. Included in this page are images from Autumn 2023 all shot on 35mm colour film, focussing on the 'bed' in anonymous spaces where I stay. Ranging from the forest floor and alpine cabins to partner's beds or family's couches, this series touches on the slower, more intimate, yet often haphazard side of travel and life.
The initial 2023 images were turned into two experimental photo books, a 15' scroll and a concertina folding book that paired my photos with sketches of each space made from memory before seeing the developed film. This interplay of the photographic record with falliable memory creates a curious archive of fact and fiction in beds annonymous to most viewers.
